NWK’s dedication to safety and compliance was exemplified through a precise asbestos removal project carried out at their grain silo sites. The mission was to address the risks posed by asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) to workers and the environment, in line with regulations and industry standards.

The endeavor began with a thorough pre-assessment, cataloguing ACM locations throughout the facility. A comprehensive asbestos management plan was crafted, outlining safety procedures and timelines. Equipped with proper personal protective equipment, workers implemented wet removal methods to curtail fiber release. Notably, approximately 100 tons of ACMs were meticulously removed from the site.

The removed materials underwent meticulous handling, being double-bagged in clearly labeled plastic bags. Transport and proper disposal were entrusted to Venter Projects (PTY) Ltd, a specialist in hazardous waste management. Stringent air monitoring and third-party clearance confirmed the area’s safety post-removal. Through effective communication and training, all stakeholders were informed about the process and safety measures. This case study attests to NWK’s commitment to safety, compliance, and environmental well-being, setting a precedent for responsible asbestos management.
